Job Summary
Serves as a fully capable professional in an architectural design team. The Senior Architect plans, (including budget + resources), schedules, organizes, coordinates and executes the design work on any/all phases of development on small to medium scale projects (or distinct portions of larger projects), with regular interaction with an Associate or designated senior team member.
Job Duties:
Project /Design Responsibilities:
Organises own and others work to achieve set deadlines
Responsible for the completeness & accuracy of own work. Responsible for the correctness, accuracy and complete multi-disciplinary coordination of the design documentation prepared by the assigned team
Prepares BIM models and drawings and co-ordinates using Navisworks and other coordination software
Adopts creative and innovative solutions to assigned tasks and develops appropriate research and documentation to support these solutions
Develops specific, standardized procedures to achieve project requirements and deadlines
Proactively checks and coordinates project documents (including but not limited to multi-disciplinary drawings, design reports, technical specifications, etc.) and ensure they meet Client requirements and Industry Standards
Ensures accuracy and quality of discipline BIM model information, presentation, and coordination
Takes accountability for own work and subordinates work

Collaborates/communicates with other disciplines regarding coordination issues and common design tasks
Regularly reviews and checks their own and team deliverables for accuracy, efficiency and thoroughness ensuring delivery is as per Client requirements and Industry standards
Leads Team and other disciplines regarding coordination issues and common design & BIM model development tasks
Communicates with clarity, purpose and accuracy
Determines solutions, methods and procedures on assignments to deliver products & services
Provides guidance to junior staff
Prepares designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, working drawings, develops details, develops specifications
Leads coordination of design using Navisworks and other coordination software
Participates in pro-active coordination with internal and external design disciplines to achieve a high-quality consistent set of presentation or design documents as per Client requirements and Industry standards
Responsible for the preparation and compilation of design presentations and reports
Leads team meetings and brings ideas and solutions to the table
Developed knowledge of AECOM’s QMS procedures
Plans for and applies Safety in Design principles throughout all design stages of a project
Reviews / Checks material schedules and sample boards
Takes responsibility for preparation of discipline drawings for submission to the Statutory Authorities. Developed knowledge of local & international codes, regulations and submission requirements
Attends / Leads client meetings
Confidently present work to colleagues, clients and stakeholders.
Provide technical support to site supervision teams and resolve design related issues on site
Coordinate and develop responses to 3rd Party review comments, tender queries, contractor’s queries, etc.
Responsible for making technical decisions regarding resolution of clashes between disciplines
Contribute, from the onset of a project, to the design of innovative and progressive design solutions that reconcile client’s goals and priorities while fostering opportunities for design excellence
Efficiency in Design:
Apply and reinforce standard designs and products across work programmes
Rigorously challenge the teams to drive efficiency in our design programmes
Coordinate efficient outsourcing / offshoring (GDC etc.) of workload
Managerial Responsibilities:
Planning and monitoring others work to achieve set deadlines
Mentoring junior team members
Coordinates and leads the assigned team of Architects and Technicians on a day to day basis and ensures that design excellence is achieved throughout
Leads design work on small to medium scale projects or particular packages for large projects ensuring project objectives are met, design instructions are implemented, and delivery is achieved within the set time and budget fee
Leads design team meetings to ensure all team members are participating and providing feedback. Motivates them and facilitates them to bring ideas and solutions to the table
Responsible for architectural resource planning for the project and reporting project needs to senior team members
Routinely interacts with clients, contractors, local authority representatives and others using skills of persuasion and negotiation to resolve critical issues
Promotes teamwork within architectural and multi-disciplinary teams (including the GDC), maintaining positive moral and instilling a creative culture within the team
Manage interface between design team / site supervision team ensuring proper design support is provided in a timely manner
Support junior staff in activities to develop their technical excellence
Ensures the quality of technical work produced by team meets Client requirements and Industry standards
Ensures, directly and through subordinates, that projects are completed on time and meet all requirements of the Design Brief
Make appropriate value judgements with respect to strategic work that supports the design concept and performance goals of the project
Commercial Responsibilities:
Understands principles of and able to work within project budgets which includes fees and designing to construction budget
General:
Delegates effectively and efficiently where appropriate and follows up on delegated tasks up to completion of the task(s)
Keeps abreast of the latest software/ techniques to increase productivity while sharing knowledge with colleagues
Minimum Requirements
Specific Skills Required :
Project /Design Responsibilities:
Ability to fulfil all the above duties and responsibilities
Excellent technical knowledge of practice line discipline
Developed architectural design skills and understanding of the design process and interfaces between design disciplines
Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Autodesk BIM 360 Glue, Navisworks, presentation software and working on projects in a BIM environment
Develops BIM content based on BIM modelling standards and as outlined in BEP
Knowledgeable of Industry BIM standards, processes and general approaches
Knowledge to set-up the configuration and administration of projects for respective discipline in Revit and AutoCAD
Performs BIM model QA/QC checks on projects according to established and company standards to ensure accuracy and quality of discipline models
Ability to extract, manipulate, validate and present BIM model information as required

Excellent Architectural design skills complimented by good hand sketching skills. Able to sketch something quickly in order to show ideas and concepts
Excellent understanding of space planning and functional adjacencies
Developed skills in the use a variety of software / media in the development, presentation and documentation of a design
Skilled at researching materials and learning about their properties & potential applications as well as installation / construction sequence requirements so they can be integrated into the design and information can be noted in depth on the drawings and specifications
Proven ability to create comprehensive wall, partition, door, louvre & finishes schedules etc. that include enough information for costing, procurement and quality installation
Capable of producing a set of quality specifications
Full understanding of Safety in Design requirements and able to develop the principals with the design team
Developed presentation skills (drawn, written & verbal)
Proficiency in Sketch-up and/or other 3D design tools
Able to review shop drawings and samples to ensure drawings and materials match AECOM designs & specifications
General Skills:

Extensive project experience and understanding of the design process and interfaces between design disciplines
Must be detail-oriented, consistent and highly accurate in the work
Must be a team player, have a positive attitude, and be a self-starter

Detailed knowledge of AECOM’s standards, policies, codes and procedures
Excellent command of English (written and spoken). Knowledge of other languages is an added value.

Developed knowledge of Fire & Life Safety Principles
Developed knowledge of Sustainable Design principles
Developed knowledge in MS Project and other Design Planning & Management tools

Preferred Qualifications
Minimum 10 years post undergraduate experience
Proven related professional experience in an Architectural Practice
Experience of working on medium to large scale projects including site experience
