May de la Cruz

QHSSE Professional

I am writing with regard to HSSE vacancies. I have an MSc degree in Marine Resources Development and Protection at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh (Scotland, UK) and I have been working for Fugro Survey Middle East and ADNOC Group (ADNOC Refining) as a Country HSSE Manager and Snr HSE Specialist, for around 4 and 10 years respectively. I have recently acquired Lean Six Sigma Green and Yellow certification with Black Belt exams scheduled this week.

With more than 20 years work experience gained within different multinational companies, I have grown from having a strong environmental background towards becoming a highly-skilled HSSE professional. I have worked extensively in the offshore industry of construction dredging, geophysical and geotechnical spreads to the Oil and Gas Industry implementing ADNOC CoPs, HSEMS (including HSE Control Procedures) during the construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning and operational activities – whether it be working in the field, on site and covering nearshore projects; and working corporately in the Head Offices. Roles have been diverse and required inter-disciplinary working environments.

As an integral part of my job responsibilities as an internal auditor, I have been able to support company's obligation to demonstrate ongoing compliance with the requirements of the ISO Management System Standard to which the company subscribes. As a result, establishing robust and effective internal audit programs have provided opportunities for improvement in process owners day to day works on their respective departments.

QHSES has been an integral for most of my career managing the safety and welfare of personnel and assets (e.g. Self-elevating platforms, barges, TSHD and CSD that made up our nearshore and offshore fleet within Fugro and Dredging International, respectively) with focus upon organisation’s HSE Management System adopting local and International Safety Standards:

• As the Senior HSE Projects Engineer I have been pivotal in leading HSEIA Studies and HSE related documents for review and development such as Project HSE Plans, HSE Commissioning Plans, Emergency response plans, etc. My performance has been effective due to direct liaison with ADNOC Operations, Main Project Divisions and Interface teams, PMC and main EPC Contractors and respective Subcontractors/manpower supply. Additionally, through the HSEIA/COMAH reporting I have been able to work within a team providing technical support for major and minor ADNOC projects (monetary value range of between $21 million to $1 billion).

• As the HSE Manager at Ruwais Refinery Expansion Project (Offshore Dredging and Land Reclamation – Project value $11million – 1,000 personnel peak) I had to translate corporate HSE objectives onto the field as well as define new emergency situations based on the identification process of major accident scenarios.

My individual work performance as a UAE Country HSSE Manager also includes concerted focus is also made on a corporate level with covering also including Qatar, Iraq, Pakistan and India:

• assisting in the formulation and development of Fugro HSEMS and the HSE global standards;
• advise on the implementation of International Safety Standards;
• develop, co-ordinate and conduct HSEMS training programmes for all Divisions and projects; and
• carry out internal audits to ensure compliance with standards and procedures; including internal auditor for ISM, ISPS and MLC for our Fugro owned and 3rd party vessels / barges.

My Health, Safety, Environment and Security career stretches over different fields, industry and disciplines from:

• conserving the marine environment through numerous NGOs in South America and Philippines;
• managing safety and security of the people and the Company’s assets in the offshore dredging industry in Russia, Norway and Taiwan; and
• the health and welfare of all employees in the Belgium, Holland and UAE to name a few.

My excellent communication skills are applied daily through direct liaison with Senior and Middle Management with ADNOC (Major Project Division, Engineering Support and Technical Services and Operating Refinery Sites including Critical Infrastructure and Coastal Protection ‎Authority (CICPA) and Ruwais Port Authority) and across business lines in Fugro (e.g., Marine and Land Site Characterisation, Asset Integrity (former for geophysical and geotechnical services); and Nearshore services too.

Working for multinational companies has introduced me to work with certain standards and codes. As a result, I can be trusted to meet my work commitments by carrying respect, team support and integrity and delivering in a timely manner. My experience in the Middle East has helped me adapt well by embracing local/national/international knowledge amongst my work colleagues.
