Job Summary:

As the Head Sommelier, you will oversee the wine service operations, working closely with the Restaurant Manager and Wine Manager to curate and update the wine list, manage inventory, and ensure optimal wine pairings for guests. Your expertise in wine selection and pairing will enhance the dining experience, and you will play a key role in driving beverage sales and delivering exceptional guest service.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Curate and update the restaurant’s wine list, ensuring a diverse and balanced selection.
  • Manage wine inventory, including ordering, stock rotation, and maintaining proper storage conditions.
  • Provide expert wine recommendations to guests, pairing wines with dishes to enhance their dining experience.
  • Ensure wines are served at the correct temperature and with appropriate glassware.
  • Train and mentor staff on wine service, tasting notes, and wine pairing principles.
  • Upsell wine and beverage selections to maximize sales and enhance guest satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to create seasonal wine pairings and promotions.
  • Monitor wine service quality, ensuring adherence to company standards.

 

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of wine varieties, regions, and food pairings.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and professionally with guests.
  • Experience in creating and managing wine lists, including budgeting and cost control.
  • Proven ability to train staff and promote wine education within the team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a passion for delivering exceptional guest experiences.

 

Level of Education:

  • WSET Level 2 qualification or equivalent in wine and beverage management is required.

Work Hours:

  • Full-time, flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Experience in Months:

  • Minimum 24 months of experience as a Sommelier or Head Sommelier in a luxury restaurant or hotel environment. International experience preferred.
