Tesco PLC is one of the UK’s largest supermarket retailer, my above have been to manage teams of between 10-45 to deliver the departmental KPI’s and company’s core objectives. Having been a Manager in every department in Tesco’s I was signed onto the Lead Manager Programme, which enable me to have a 5-year career plan to which I had opted to become a store manager for a large format store and move to Training & Development

Working along side effortlessly with Personnel Managers to establish strong foundations for the Human Resource function at Tesco, this was in order to establish common processes and ‘one message’ management to be established within our store and not just individual departments.

It was with my forward thinking and the use of company policies and processes that gave me the Store Manager’s confidence, insisting on me moving around each department to learn the business as soon as possible. During my development I found departments that were not in line with the company policies and processes and as a result of performance management of the staff involved was a natural consequence. My investigatory skills, and managing of individual’s saw me head several investigations, not just at my given store but within our group.

My forward thinking and initiative made me a resource for other managers and serve the core purpose of Tesco. Being one of the few female Managers, it was given that I was to encourage other ‘Females to join the upwards ladder to top management scheme and lead the way to a better future with Tesco’s as, I myself being a single parent to two children determined a great passion to grow, learn and achieve my goals and aspirations and continue to do so as I am a firm believer that one can always ‘push themselves to whatever they may want to achieve.

RGIS Inventory Services is a global provider of stock taking services and space management. RGIS primarily offers its clients full inventory service, having acquired Tesco PLC as a blue-chip client the role of Count Manager was created to service Tesco in the Midlands region.

My responsibility as a role of Count Manager was to recruit, train and build a core team for the Midlands region and service all formats of Tesco stores in within 120 miles radius with Birmingham at its heart. I put together a team of 100 employees and organised both their trainings and development.

My role required to contact Store Managers and plan in the date of their inventory and execute a pre – inventory visits advising them of the preparation and standards required for an efficient & accurate count. The pre-inventory visit was an audit for the given stores to receive certain grades and targets for them to achieve and be prepared for the inventory.

From initial contact I was accountable for ensuring my teams travel arrangements, equipment to carry out the inventory, delivery KPI targets around accuracy of the count and finally delivery the results to the Store Managers and signing off the count.

This role required a lot of dedication and strong planning and execution, with no scope for failure. It was an expensive operation for both RGIS & Tesco PLC and had to be executed with both strong decisions making & leadership.
