• Employ a differentiated approach to teaching English Composition, Literature and Language Arts to Grades 9 to 12 in a varied ability-level student environment.
• Develop purposeful English lesson plans that cover the curriculum and provide for effective teaching strategies.
• Use a variety of instructional techniques and materials consistent with the needs and capabilities of the students.
• Provide a classroom environment that promotes independent critical thinking by students while addressing their learning and emotional needs.
• Conduct formal and informal student assessments, review student progress and develop intervention strategies as necessary.
• Implement standardized testing strategies and preparation.
• Maintain complete and accurate records.
• Ensure positive and consistent communications with parents.
• Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
• Work with appropriate specialists, staff members and parents to assist students with special problems.
• Support and reinforce school policies, philosophies and goals with students and parents.
• Encourage students to set and maintain acceptable standards of classroom behaviour
• Participate in extracurricular activities to promote a positive school culture.
