ALA AL-KAJELA

Dr.

I started my career as a teacher in two different high schools In Jordan. Then, I moved to teaching at University of Duhok (Iraq) - College of Basic Education- Department of English Language. At that time, the department was still in a nascent state which required a huge amount of hard work and perseverance as every other fledgling enterprise. I feel proud that some of my students decided to pursue their postgraduate studies in other accredited universities. I have more than 15 years experience as an instructor of TESL, TEFL and EAP at the tertiary level. I have ICTEAL from TESL Ontario and I am a certified English Language teacher (OCELT). I am worked as EAP instructor at Mohawk College- Language and Culture Centre. I am currently a supply teacher at St. Charles Adult Continuing Education Centre-Hamilton.
I got my PhD from the Department of Linguistics and Languages-McMaster University (2017). I enrolled in the cognitive science of language program, but I pursued my research on an endangered language (i.e. Neo-Aramaic). My line of research focuses on some macro-linguistics aspects of language such as: idioms, metaphors, and politeness theory. My objective was twofold. First, document and describe analytically these macro-linguistic aspects of Neo-Aramaic. Second, compare the conceptual and cognitive development of Neo-Aramaic speakers with their Canadian peers.
