Roisin Tierney

Experience Class Teacher - Primary

Ever since I started teaching at the Foundation/Kindergarten level, I have been passionate in my commitment to three things: that all children meet their maximum potential, they acquire a passion and thirst for learning and to nurture the development of the whole child. I have dedicated my career to each of these pursuits.

I am currently a Kindergarten 2 Class Teacher International Concept for Education (ICE) School, Dubai. I have been employed by ICE since September 2014 and have contributed to the school since its infancy. I have predominantly worked in the Kindergarten and have experience in Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten 2.

I have a strong interest in special needs education which is why I am currently undertaking a Postgraduate Certificate in ‘Speech, Language and Communication Needs in Children’ part time. This is helping me to gain a better understanding of the various special needs I may come across and how I can better tailor my teaching to benefit them. I will complete this qualification in June 2019.

ICE is an International Baccalaureate (IB) and French bilingual curriculum school and this has given me a wide variety of experience working in a multi-cultural school. I am based in the IB English stream but regularly collaborate with my peers and the French curriculum also. This has been exciting as I have learnt a great deal from other curriculums and cultures and taken the best qualities while incorporating IB themes and topics into my lessons.

I have worked closely with Senior Management and my peers over many years to establish the Kindergarten Department which required me to take on more responsibilities. My role includes: supporting new staff, providing training, coordinating events, organise planning meetings and benchmarking between classes.

Other aspects of the school that I have contributed to include: designing areas within the playground and outdoor space, ordering resources for the sports department, creating a Kindergarten garden and ordering academic resources. In addition, I play a key role in the organisation of our annual carnival and art exhibition for students and parents. I have also contributing to the completion of the KHDA SEF and building policies as a collective group. All of these have been fantastic experiences as I have been able to collaborate and contribute to developing a new school from the outset.

Prior to ICE, I worked as a Foundation Stage 2 (KG2) Class Teacher in London for two years. This school was rated Outstanding by OFSTED. I also had extra responsibilities such as Extra Curricular Coordinator and School Council Lead teacher. This gave me further concrete knowledge of the National Curriculum of England as well as the high expectations of working in an Outstanding rated school.

I am confident that my diverse teaching experience has prepared me well for a teaching position at your school. I am extremely flexible with working in a variety of curriculums, highly motivated and am adaptable to the changes that will come with a move to a new school.

I have a strong commitment to teaching and learning and I know that I would be an invaluable member of your school community. My recent experience is at Kindergarten Level but I am also open to any potential opportunities that you may have available throughout the lower school.
