Job Description



The purpose of the job is to approve or recommend the credit applications  concluded by a team of Credit Managers and credit officers for a portfolio Real Estates across the UAE. The Real Estate portfolio is made up of 1000 plus accounts with AED 15 Billion deployed by financing the assets across consumer and commercial banking. The key purpose is to determine whether the borrower (mostly sensitive ultra-high net worth clients and relative medium to large size corporations), is eligible for financing and the requested credit facility is in line with the bank’s risk appetite and Target Market Risk Acceptance Criteria (TM-RAC). To build an infrastructure of relationship management and customer service culture and process between credit, business, collections and CAD.




Generic Accountability


To ensure that best in class Credit Policies and Programs are in place.

To ensure that effective portfolio monitoring mechanism and processes are in place.

To ensure efficiency, reliability and speed in Credit Governance.

To guide team of Credit Managers and Credit officers on structuring of Credit facilities to ensure that all deals are structured in a sound and robust manner.   Advises team on the risk factors associated with complex transactions, and the clauses imperative in mitigating these.

Guide and Oversees the due diligence process for prospective deals in collaboration with Coverage and Product teams to ensure that emerging risk factors are identified and addressed in the Credit Proposal.

Make recommendation to Credit Committees to take on assets which meets Bank’s Risk Acceptance criteria and policy Guidelines.

To deal with Internal & External auditor’s reports and take appropriate steps to close all the observations / issues raised in these reports.  Meet Internal and External auditors, as and when required, to discuss portfolio related queries.

To coordinate with other departments of the bank (e.g. CAD, FAB Properties, Risk, Finance, TB, Operations etc.) on various Credit and allied issues on behalf of Real Estate Credit.

Ensure accuracy of data being presented to various stakeholders including senior management

Recommend amendments to the Bank’s credit policy, procedures, Risk Rating models, credit memorandums, risk criteria etc based on lending experience and market expediencies ensuring it is aligned with overall Bank’s risk strategy & policy

To ensure that team member’ remains engaged by maintaining appropriate workload balance across the team, motivating them to perform well, recognizing their efforts and providing feedback on regular basis.

To coordinate with the Learning & Development Department to ensure that suitable training opportunities are provided to the team members, from time to time, to enhance their skills and abilities.

To coordinate with IT to ensure that new technologies are launched from time to time to improve the productivity and efficiency of the Credit function of the bank.

Job Specific Accountabilities


To Guide the team of Credit Managers and Credit officers in preparing of comprehensive credit papers clearly outlining key risks, mitigations and recommendation for presentation to Credit Committee for prospective and existing clients under assigned portfolio

To coordinates with Coverage teams in advance to discuss deal pipeline of new / interim proposals, due dates of annual reviews so as to obtain necessary information to facilitate a comprehensive review of the credit facilities.

Ensure the team that the turnaround time to process credit application is as per agreed SLAs with Real Estate credit.

Participate in (large, complex) client relationships through client visits / conference calls as part of transaction initiation and monitoring

Oversee the portfolio on regular basis to ensure that it remains healthy and all the terms & conditions approved are being complied with.

Monitor early warning indicators in order to identify potential problem accounts and liaise with Business Units for ensuring suitable action plans are in place to rectify the situation at an early stage.

Maintain appropriate workload balance across the team of credit managers and officers.

Minimum Qualification


Must have Bachelor’s degree.

Desirable: - Chartered Accountant/ Masters in Business Administration (MBA) or any other relevant finance degree or diploma.

Minimum Experience


15 years’ relevant experience in banking sector, with a similar position of progressively increasing managerial responsibilities in credit function.

Analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Leadership and time-management skills.

Communication & interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate with various internal customers such as coverage & product teams, compliance and support divisions…etc.

Detail-oriented team player with a strong understanding of budgets and estimates.
