Job Summary:
We are seeking a Technical Supervisor to join our team at Jumeirah Burj Al Arab. This role involves managing guest activities related to marine conservation, overseeing educational programs, and assisting in the daily operations of the aquarium and the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP). The Technical Supervisor will also lead research efforts and support animal care operations, contributing to Jumeirah’s sustainability initiatives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage guest activities related to Burj Al Arab Aquarium, Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP), and Jumeirah Coral Restoration programs.
  • Conduct aquarium back-of-house tours, daily educational talks at Jumeirah Al Naseem Turtle Sanctuary, and coordinate school trips to the Turtle Lagoon.
  • Lead and organize Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) events, including turtle release programs and marine conservation awareness campaigns.
  • Perform data analysis and research on turtle satellite tracking, migratory patterns, and post-rehabilitation nesting, in collaboration with veterinary labs.
  • Oversee day-to-day aquarium operations, including food preparation, animal feeding, equipment maintenance, fish quarantine, medication, and postmortem tasks.
  • Support DTRP operations, including turtle rescue, treatment, and coordination of veterinary visits.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining educational materials and programs for guest tours, workshops, and conservation events.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental health and safety standards, both in aquarium operations and guest interactions.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior staff on aquarium operations, conservation practices, and guest engagement.
  • Collaborate with external research partners to enhance marine conservation efforts and improve animal care practices.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Zoology, or a related field with at least 5 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum qualification of PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent.
  • Strong research and data analysis skills in marine biology, with a focus on marine conservation and rehabilitation.
  • Excellent communication skills for delivering educational talks, guest interactions, and working with teams.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and data management tools for tracking research and operational tasks.
  • Experience in aquarium management, animal rehabilitation, and marine conservation programs is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, health and safety standards, and ethical practices in marine conservation.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

 

Level of Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marine Biology, Zoology, or a related field.

Work Hours:

  • Full-time role with flexibility for weekends, holidays, and special events.

Experience in Months:

  • Minimum of 24 months (2 years) of experience with a Master’s degree, or 60 months (5 years) with a Bachelor’s degree, in marine biology or related fields.
