Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Stewarding Shift Leader to join our team at InterContinental Hotels GroupĀ® Dubai Festival City. In this role, you will ensure the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and stewarding areas, uphold health and safety standards, and lead the stewarding team in delivering exceptional support to our culinary operations.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the kitchen and stewarding areas, ensuring all work surfaces meet ISI standards.
- Assist the Chief Steward / Back of House Manager in enforcing Health and Safety and Food Safety regulations.
- Report and follow up on faults in kitchen equipment and fixtures to maintenance for timely repairs.
- Ensure a continuous supply of clean utensils and equipment for the culinary team.
- Monitor the performance of charge hands and kitchen porters, providing corrective actions and support as needed.
- Help coordinate staff schedules to ensure all shifts are adequately covered.
- Facilitate training and induction programs for new staff to uphold service and safety standards.
- Supervise the daily usage of stewarding chemicals and ensure adherence to safety instructions during equipment cleaning.
- Conduct regular checks to verify the cleanliness of service and kitchen operating equipment.
- Collaborate with the culinary team to enhance overall kitchen efficiency and service quality.
- Assist in inventory management of cleaning supplies and equipment, ensuring stock levels are maintained.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss performance, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
Requirements:
- Good command of spoken and written English; knowledge of a second language is an advantage.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to effectively train and mentor staff.
- Solid understanding of HACCP principles and practices.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing tasks and shifts as needed.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a similar role within a 4- or 5-star hotel environment.
- Proven ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness and safety standards.
- Physical stamina to perform manual tasks and lift heavy objects when necessary.
Level of Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in hospitality management or culinary arts are a plus.
Work Hours:
- Full-time position with flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Experience in Months:
- Minimum 24 months of relevant experience in a stewarding or kitchen support role.
