Job Summary:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sommelier to join the team at Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab. The role is responsible for overseeing the wine program, ensuring the highest standards of service, and maintaining strong relationships with both staff and guests. This includes managing wine selections, training staff, and providing expert guidance to enhance the guest experience.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Train colleagues on wine knowledge, tasting techniques, and service protocols to ensure consistent and knowledgeable service.
  • Monitor and control wine orders, stock levels, and inventory, ensuring proper stock rotation and minimizing waste.
  • Maintain proper temperature and storage conditions for all wines, including regular temperature checks and record-keeping.
  • Ensure efficient service by attending to all tables during service, refilling glasses and taking fresh orders as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with Junior Sommeliers and service teams to foster teamwork and maintain smooth operations.
  • Provide detailed feedback and suggestions to the Beverage Manager and Outlet Managers regarding wine availability and guest preferences.
  • Ensure that all opened bottles are properly labeled and recorded, handling spoilage or transfers according to company standards.
  • Support the service team with beverage service, offering guidance on pairings and upselling opportunities.
  • Assist the Beverage Manager with administrative tasks, special events, and other duties as required.
  • Conduct regular wine tastings and staff training sessions to maintain a high level of product knowledge across the team.

 

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a similar role within a luxury hotel or standalone restaurant, with a solid understanding of luxury hospitality standards.
  • Proficiency in English is essential; additional language skills in Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian, Mandarin, German, or Greek are highly desirable.
  • Extensive wine and beverage knowledge, with the ability to strategically upsell and enhance guest satisfaction.
  • Certification in WSET Level 3 or equivalent is required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build rapport with guests and team members.
  • Experience in a pre-opening setting is a plus, with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
