Job Summary:
The Line Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes in accordance with established recipes, quality standards, and presentation guidelines. This role requires attention to detail in ensuring food quality, portion control, and cleanliness, while assisting in maintaining smooth kitchen operations during busy periods. The Line Cook also communicates with the service staff regarding menu items and specials, and may provide support to management in areas like training and coaching staff.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare special meals or substitute items as requested by guests or management.
- Regulate and monitor temperatures of ovens, grills, and other kitchen equipment to ensure optimal cooking conditions.
- Pull food from storage and thaw items as needed, ensuring proper preparation for cooking.
- Portion, arrange, and garnish food in line with presentation standards.
- Maintain accurate food logs and monitor the quality and quantity of food prepared.
- Inform chefs of excess food items for inclusion in daily specials and inform service staff about menu specials and unavailable items.
- Prepare cold foods, soups, and sauces as part of daily kitchen operations.
- Assist during peak periods by providing additional support to ensure smooth service.
- Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines, ensuring all areas are kept clean and organized.
- Assist management with hiring, training, and mentoring kitchen staff; serve as a role model in maintaining kitchen standards.
- Adhere to all company policies, safety protocols, and maintain professional appearance.
- Collaborate with kitchen and service teams to meet guest expectations and ensure a high level of guest satisfaction.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including maintaining food stock and cleanliness, and supporting kitchen management.
Requirements:
- Technical, Trade, or Vocational School Degree preferred.
- At least 3 years of related work experience in food preparation or kitchen operations.
- Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with service staff and management.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds without assistance during work shifts.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- No supervisory experience required.
