Job Summary:
The Commis Chef is responsible for preparing high-quality food in line with the outlet’s standards. This role involves supporting senior chefs in daily kitchen tasks, ensuring cleanliness, and maintaining efficient kitchen operations while delivering excellent service.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of all dishes as directed by senior chefs.
- Ensure all food items are prepared, plated, and presented in accordance with the outlet’s standards.
- Follow established food safety, hygiene, and sanitation protocols.
- Help with the preparation of mise en place, ensuring ingredients are readily available for cooking.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including workstations and storage areas.
- Assist in managing inventory by monitoring stock levels and notifying supervisors of shortages.
- Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations, especially during peak times.
- Follow portion control guidelines to minimize food wastage.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is used and maintained safely and appropriately.
- Support the implementation of new recipes and menu items under the guidance of senior chefs.
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of basic culinary techniques and kitchen operations.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
- Understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Ability to work under pressure during busy periods.
Level of Education:
- Culinary certification or relevant training is preferred.
Work Hours:
- Flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
Experience in Months:
- Minimum 12 months as a Commis Chef or 24 months as an Apprentice in a hotel or restaurant with high standards.
