Job Summary:

The Commis Chef is responsible for preparing high-quality food in line with the outlet’s standards. This role involves supporting senior chefs in daily kitchen tasks, ensuring cleanliness, and maintaining efficient kitchen operations while delivering excellent service.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of all dishes as directed by senior chefs.
  • Ensure all food items are prepared, plated, and presented in accordance with the outlet’s standards.
  • Follow established food safety, hygiene, and sanitation protocols.
  • Help with the preparation of mise en place, ensuring ingredients are readily available for cooking.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including workstations and storage areas.
  • Assist in managing inventory by monitoring stock levels and notifying supervisors of shortages.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations, especially during peak times.
  • Follow portion control guidelines to minimize food wastage.
  • Ensure kitchen equipment is used and maintained safely and appropriately.
  • Support the implementation of new recipes and menu items under the guidance of senior chefs.

 

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of basic culinary techniques and kitchen operations.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Ability to work under pressure during busy periods.

 

Level of Education:

  • Culinary certification or relevant training is preferred.

Work Hours:

  • Flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Experience in Months:

  • Minimum 12 months as a Commis Chef or 24 months as an Apprentice in a hotel or restaurant with high standards.
