Senior Manager – Worker Welfare

All companies associated with Expo 2020 Dubai and District 2020 Dubai are required to adhere to the UAE labour law as well as some enhanced Standards implemented by Expo 2020. To ensure this happens all companies associated with the project are audited against the Standards to ascertain their compliance levels.
Reporting to the Vice President of Worker Welfare, responsible for overseeing the compliance levels against the Worker Welfare Assurance Standards for all International Participants and Partners.

Key achievements:
• Led the onboarding sessions for International Participants, Partners and their associated companies prior to their joining the event
• Assessed companies via paperwork submissions wanting to work within the project
• Managed in excess of 150 audits of main and sub-contractors over a 2-year period
• Handled reported hotline calls related to the International Particpants and Partners throughout construction, fit out, event & decommissioning
• Hosted monthly forums for Worker Welfare Monitors and Managers to attend, enabling them to increase their knowledge of Worker Welfare
• Guided and mentored worker welfare representatives to enable compliance levels of companies associated with the project to be increased

Reporting to the Director of HR, with direct line responsibility for 45, responsible for overseeing the Employee Lifecycle function for the Group. The Group has 68,000 staff across the UAE. As the Head – HR Operational Excellence, accountable for overseeing all aspects of the payroll and HR administration process (team recruitment/management), liaison with government offices, adherence to regulatory guidelines for Occupational Health and Airside pass for UAE airports, in a very multi-cultural environment. Supported with the review of HR Budgets – Learning and Development, manpower, PRO related activities and recruitment. Assisted in providing strategic direction for the HR Department as a whole.

Key achievements:
• Successfully restructured and reduced the team from 57 to 45, over 18 months, resulting in a saving of approx. AED500k annually.
• Developed and oversaw the implementation of Department SOP’s (350+) and process manuals, ensuring smooth processing of workflow.
• Identified, analyzed and oversaw the implementation of HR initiatives – saving AED40m:
o Headcount reductions across the Organisation.
o Amended the processing of unpaid leave from gratuity and leave accrual calculations.
o Oversaw the implementation of UAE labour law –AED 10m saved in repatriation flights.
o Amended the travel policy and spearheaded the implementation of Sharaf Travel.
o As a team, identified, led the negotiations with for a new Insurance premium (AED9m saved across a fixed 3 year term).
• Initiated the visa automation process – reduced time frame by 33%.
• Delivered AED800k savings through the lean six sigma green belt project.
• Oversaw the management of 190+ payrolls per month (68,000 employees).
o Average error rating of less than 0.1% across all payrolls (Industry standard – 1.0%).
